How to Import DXFs files in Tekla Structures

  Tekla Structures is a building information modeling software able to model structures that incorporate different kinds of building materials, including steel, concrete, timber and glass. However it is widely used for the detailing of structural drawing.  In a detailing software like Tekla Structures, it is very useful we can import the plan or the gridline of the beam column plane directly, as it helps us to assign the elements of the structure which we are going to make in Tekla Structures. In this blog, we are going to discuss how we can import DXFs files in Tekla Structures. So let's start the step by step procedure. Step 1: Go to files and Select Import Step 2: Choose dwg/dxf Step 3: Browse the dxf file in your computer and click on import Step 4: Reference lines of your architectural plan will be imported Step 5: Move the architectural plan and overlap it with the origin of grid lines Step 6: After a little modification in grid lines you can start modelling in Tekla Structu

Design of One Way slab Part-1: Determining Effective Depth in One-Way Slab

  To design a one way slab first of all we need to check whether it’s supported on all sides and second whether it’s aspect ratio is more than two or not. So, if any slab is not supported on all sides then we don’t need to check for the second condition. It is simply  a one way slab. But if it is supported on all sides then we need to check what is it’s aspect ratio. Now the major question is, what is the aspect ratio.  Aspect ratio= Longer Span/Shorter Span . If the aspect ratio is greater than two then it is a one-way slab, otherwise it’s a two way slab.  Now our next step will be calculating the effective depth. Then again we need to know what is effective depth.  So, Effective depth= Overall depth - half of diameter of main reinforcement - clear cover.   To calculate the effective depth we have a formula. l/d < k1.k2.k3.k4 X Basic value Now the question is what are these values!
