TSD Basic concept of column orientation using TSD

Tekla Structural Designer is advanced software used for Structural Analysis and Design of a Building. In Tekla, we can do the detailing of steel structures as well as RCC structures. We can create RCC buildings and we can insert the rebars in Tekla structures Designer software.  We can also do the form works and structural drawing without the help of any other software.

Let’s see below the basic concept of column orientation in TSD.

Step 1

First of all, according to the thumb rule of the column orientation, the longer face of the column will go along the longer span as it is shown in fig. 1.

So now you can see in the image we have created a matrix or a rectangular grid and along the grid we have made a structure and the horizontal length is 7m and the vertical length is 3 m so the total length is 14m and 6m . so we have assigned all the loads in the buildings like dead load, live loads and we will see how the column orientation actually affects so the size of the column is 300 x 250 mm so according to the thumb rule the longer span of the column should be in the longer length that is 14 m as in the model it is not according to the thumb rule so let’s change it accordingly and see the results.

So now we will change the size and by selecting the column we will right-click and then we will go to the design selection and then static now we will check member and then static so the result is that the reinforcement increases that means if we provide wrong orientation then more moment or force will act on the column.

 

So like this we can import Gridlines of separate floors in TSD.
