All you need to know about Lap Length of Bars

 In this blog we will discuss about  lap length.

So what is lap length? 

The amount of overlapping between two bars is called "Lap Length".

And lapping is done where minimum bending stress is encountered.

General lap length provided in RCC structural member is 50d.  Where 50d means 50 times the bar diameter, if both bars are same diameter.

General cranking length of bars for lapping is 0.42d.

IS considerations Lap length of Bars. 

Lapping of bar is not allowed for bars having Dia more than 32mm, welding should be preferred.

Lap length including anchorage valuable of hooks for bars in flexural tension shall be greater among Ld( Development Length)  and 30 d( d is diameter is smaller bar)  for direct tension. 

The minimum straight lap length should be greater among 15d and 200mm for bars in compression the lap length should be gretor among Ld ( Development Length) and 24d.

Development Length is provided to transfer the load from steel to concrete.
