Differences between Tekla structural designer and Tekla structures

Tekla Structural Designer is an advanced software used for Structural Analysis and Design of a Building. In Tekla we can do detailing of steel structures as well as RCC structures. We can create RCC buildings and we can insert the rebars in Tekla structures Designer software.  We can also do the form works and structural drawing without the help of any other softwares .

Tekla Structures is the most advanced structural BIM software, in which we can also do the detailing and is also a product of Trimble .

Let’s go point by point to get the differences

Tekla structural designer is the structure Analysis and Design software. So we can perform the structure Analysis and structure Design using this software whereas Tekla structures is basically a structure Detailing and building information modelling software. So the Detailing of a building can be done using Tekla structures .Also, the Building Information Modelling can be done in Tekla structures.

Fig.1

In Tekla structural designer, Design of the model can be done but Detailing can’t be done. As we can see, the figure is in Tekla structural designer. After the completion of Analysis and Design. As we can see that some members are passed, some are failed and some are warnings and on the loads also we can see that these are the live loads, dead loads and the loads on the staircases. These loads are being applied. We can get the size of structural members like Columns, Beams, Slabs and the types of Reinforcement. so, these things we can get using TSD.

Fig.2

Whereas Tekla structures do structural detailing and Building Information modelling software.

As we can see in the figure 2, Four Reinforcement is given at the top and bottom too and the extra Reinforcement is provided in Beams at the top , at the ends and in bottom at the centre but these results can’t be displayed in TSD. If we go for the detailing, we can save the cost of the project i.e. in larger construction projects, mainly the detailing is preferred. So those detailings we can do in Tekla structures.

Tekla structural designer can calculate accurate quantity of concrete but Reinforcement steel quantity in the case of RCC building, it  can calculate with an allowance of 10% or may be more than the actual quantity of the Reinforcement required. Whereas in Tekla structures, after the design, it provides accurate Reinforcement detailing in the B.I.M. model. So there is no possibility of any error and it gives the accurate quantity of concrete as well as Reinforcement steel quantity.

Tekla structural designer can’t calculate the form work quantity. As we can know, the Form works play an important role in building constructions. So it has a contribution to the construction project cost.  Whereas Tekla structures calculate the quantity of form work. So it is the advantage of using Tekla structures software.

Tekla structural designers can’t do construction planning and management. So as we know construction planning and management means scheduling of different activities. So that construction processes are planned smooth and everything works according to our plan. So these things we can do in Tekla structures which add bones to this software.

Tekla structural Designer VS ETABS.

Tekla Structural Designer is advanced software used for Structural Analysis and Design of a Building. In Tekla, we can do the detailing of steel structures as well as RCC structures. We can create RCC buildings and we can insert the rebars in Tekla structures Designer software.  We can also do the form works and structural drawing without the help of any other software. Let’s see the difference between TSD and ETABS. Step 1 As per the modelling aspects in ETABS we can import the grid lines we cannot import the shadow of an architectural drawing and in Tekla, we can import grid lines as well as the shadow of an architectural drawing assigning beams and columns is very easy and the modelling becomes quick.  In ETABS we cannot see the extruded view easily but in TSD we can see the extruded view easily. Basically, visualization is easy in TSD as compared to ETABS.   Step 2 In TSD load application is very easy as the dead load and live load both are almost same but in the wind...

What are TOF, SSL, & TOS in Tekla structural designer ?

Tekla structural designer (TSD) is a simple, integrated design & analysis software that gives engineers the power to analyze and design buildings efficiently and profitably. Pile foundation as two parts likely pile cap and pile, here in TSD we can design the pile cap but not the pile. TOF (Top of foundation), TOS (Top of steel), SSL (Structural slab level) are the terms in TSD software which are used while creating levels. Refer the below steps we will know about TOF , SSL & TOS  : Step 1 Go to TSD software and click on construction levels, under that section you will come across the type of level being designed, likely TOF, TOS, & SSL.     TOF: Top of foundation is a level which is helpful for placing foundation, plinth level and helps in excavation work identification also. TOS: Top of steel (level) takes a major part while you are working with the steel structures, composite structures or else steel structure completely, so in these cases you can mak...

Difference Between Tekla Structures and Tekla Structural Designer

NTRODUCTION: Tekla Structures and Tekla Structural Designer both are Software Developed by Trimble, some of the major differences between the two software are as Follows. 1. USAGE: The following are the primary differences between the two software based on their usage and the final product generated. TEKLA STRUCTURAL DESIGNER (TSD) is a  Structural Analysis & Design Software, it is used for structural analysis and design of all structural members after the application of loads (Eg. Live Load, Dead Load, Wind Load, Seismic Load etc.) as per the standard code provisions, varying with the location of construction of building. TEKLA STRUCTURES (TS) is a   Structural Detailing & Building Information Modelling (BIM) Software, it can be used for creating detailed model after we have the Structural design results. After finishing the BIM Model, a section can be cut from any Plane to generate Good For Construction Drawings (GEC) with detailing of rebar specifying the...
