How to design the pile cap with pile foundation in Tekla structural designer ?

Tekla structural designer (TSD) is a simple, integrated design & analysis software that gives engineers the power to analyze and design buildings efficiently and profitably. Pile foundation as two parts likely pile cap and pile, here in TSD we can design the pile cap but not the pile.

Refer the below steps to design the pile cap with pile foundation in TSD :

Step 1

First and foremost get into your TSD software and click on foundations and select catalogue, under that add on the pile cap information like pile data, pile capacity (if you have soil test reports), horizontal and vertical parameters (linearity, spring stiffness, restraints) regarding pile cap. At the end of this step click on OK, so that a pile type will be created. (Multiple pile types can be created)

Step 2

Before assigning the piles go to settings & check out, so we have foundation settings under that select reinforcement layout and pile cap. There you can edit the reinforcement details like bar size, bar spacing etc..,

Step 3

Next is your pile minimum & maximum depths, minimum & maximum pile side length, pile side length ratio etc... Under foundation size option, under general parameters you can find nominal aggregate size, then under piles option you can just check out the number piles, edge distance and more parameters. After making all changes you have to save those settings for application.

Step 4

Now select the pile cap column, just simply assign the pile caps by selecting the whole structure (it will be not designed yet). So it can be designed by selecting design pile caps, then by right clicking you can know the design details of the pile caps.

Step 5

Suppose if you need to check the detailed drawing in AUTOCAD then right click on pile and select generate detailing drawing, and so you will be redirected to auto cad and reinforcement & design details will be shown there.

Step 6

If you want generate the whole foundation drawing, go to draw, drawing management, select foundation layout, Add, click on content, select first foundation, and then click on OK and view the drawing in AUTOCAD (total foundation layout with all details)
