Tekla structural designer (TSD) is a simple, integrated design & analysis software that gives engineers the power to analyze and design buildings efficiently and profitably, fully automated and packed with many unique features for optimized concrete and steel design.
Follow the below steps to import load combinations to TSD:
Step 1
Open the MS excel file,
Before importing the load combinations, you need to know the load combinations prescribed by the design code. And we have the load combinations as per IS 875 – 5 (Indian code for practice of design loads).
And we have 3 types of loads like dead load(D), live load(L), seismic loads(E) (+x direction, -x direction, +y direction, - y direction), so now we have 6 different loads and 9 load combinations as shown in the fig 1.
Then now we need to arrange all the loads and factors (As per Indian standards) in a particular format in the MS excel file (sheet 1) so that we can import them to TSD.
Fig.1
Step 2
Let’s go the Tekla structural designer software and import the load cases, so for that in a new file click on loading options where you can find load cases option, since we are exporting the load cases manually delete the existing default loads( dead load, live load, service load) excluding slab self weight.
So now select the import option over there, then select the location of the excel file where we made the format.
Fig.2
Step 3
Click on next continue, It will show some options of load cases names and combination names arrangement (like whether row or column), I’m going with the first option of orientation. And make sure the sources of names are correct (cross check with the excel file).
Fig.3
Step 4
Click on next and specify the load types (dead load, imposed load, seismic load), then you can see all the load combinations being created (6 load cases and 9 load combinations).
Step 5
So now we are at the end, go to the combinations part and just click on the first load combination to add on the self weight of the slab (which we have excluded meanwhile). Follow the same and add the self weight of slab to all the load combinations.
Step 6
So yes after adding self weights click on OK and go back to combinations and verify whether all the changes you made are updated or not.
So this is how can import load combinations to TSD manually using MS excel……,
